Servite friar
St. Peregrine Laziosi
Born in Forlì, Italy, about 1260, Peregrine once struck a Servite friar who offered him his cheek in return, then repented and joined the Servites himself. He founded a lay community for peace, cared for the sick through the plague years, and bore the loss of a leg without losing his trust in God. Canonized in 1934, he is widely invoked by people with cancer and serious illnesses.
