Wife, mother and Augustinian nun

St. Rita of Cascia

Born about 1381 at Roccaporena near Cascia, Rita was a wife and mother before entering the Augustinian convent in Cascia after the murder of her husband. For forty years she lived a life of prayer, penance and obedience, and is remembered for the wound of a thorn from Christ's Crown on her forehead. Canonized in 1900, she is widely invoked in causes that seem impossible.
