The Fourth Joyful Mystery
The Presentation To Simeon
Forty days after the birth of Christ, Mary and Joseph, faithful to the law of Moses, bring the infant Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord. This quiet act of devotion — steeped in tradition and reverence — reflects their deep humility and obedience to God’s will. In this sacred encounter, the ancient promise meets its fulfillment, and time itself seems to hold its breath.
Within the Temple walls waits Simeon, a righteous and devout man who had been promised by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before beholding the Messiah. The moment he takes the Child into his arms, his soul overflows with joy and peace as he proclaims, “Now, Lord, you may let your servant go in peace, for my eyes have seen your salvation.” Alongside him stands Anna, the prophetess, her aged eyes filled with renewed light as she praises God and tells of the redemption that has come.
This mystery invites us to meditate on faith fulfilled through patience, on the beauty of surrendering to God’s timing, and on the joy of recognizing Christ in our midst. Like Simeon and Anna, may we cultivate hearts that are watchful, hopeful, and ready to rejoice when God’s promises unfold.
In the gentle rhythm of obedience and trust, Mary and Joseph offer the Light of the World to the Father — and the world is forever illuminated.
